In addition to expanding my microbiology knowledge, I used my classes at MSU to gain additional skills that will help my in my research career, such as confocal microscopy, statistics, and grant writing.
At UW-Madison, I took a microbiology my freshman year, and the trajectory for the rest of my career was changed. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Sciences in Microbiology, and from this time I learned how to conduct a research project, analyze results (both my own and others), and generally how to be a scientist.
Even though I am from a small hometown, it's technically a village, I was still afforded opportunities to succeed academically in high school. I took a number of advanced placement classes, but the one I took to most was AP Biology, and it was in this class that I realized a future in sciences could be in store for me.
